Transmission Gear Disassembly in my 1994 Nissan Pathfinder 2.
This is incomplete at best. A service manual is essential.
Would I disassemble everything knowing what I know now? NO!!!!
But first, lets pay some bills:
This is the mainshaft with labels. The least legible label is the 1-2 sync hub.
Pressing out 2nd gear and the 1-2 sync hub.
Used the big bearing splitter.
I did not remove Mainshaft front snapring.
I did not press off 3rd main gear with 3-4 sync hub and needle bearing.
I measured them, they were withing spec.
Getting into 3rd grinds now! The one thing I didn't F with!
I did not remove front side components of the counter gear.
Tiny roller bearings.
I did not get new ones, so I cleaned it and greased it and called it done.
Removed Main drive gear (input shaft) front snapring and spacer.
Pressing main gear bearing.
Hammered out counter gear front transmission case bearing.
Used a big socket.
Counter gear rear end bearing is on 4WD only.
Removed adapter plate mainshaft front bearing cover.
Found some other useful drifts
to hammer the mainshaft front bearing out of the adapter plate.
Pressed out adapter plate counter gear rear bearing.
Used another big socket.
I wonder if those sockets are any good at turning bolts?
- Next I sold out to make 02¢
so I can fulfill my lifelong dream of owning a 1986 944 with blown head gaskets.
But no minivans!
